Original drawing for plate XII in John Lindley's 'Sertum orchidaceum: a wreath of the most beautiful orchidaceous flowers; selected by John Lindley', published in 1838. Illustration shows part monochromatic, part colour study of leaves and flowers. Inscribed lower left corner 'Rec'd Sept. 15, 1825'. Some discoloration to lower edge and top right corner of paper. According to Lindley, 'The plant from which the annexed drawing was prepared was sent to me [Lindley] from Liverpool by Richard Harrison Esq......The species is extensively distributed through the tropical parts of America'.
