Watercolour on paper, no date (late 18th, early 19th century). Hand painted copy of an illustration commissioned by William Roxburgh (1751-1815). In his Flora Indica, Roxburgh describes this species as a native of the Malay Islands. Roxburgh also notes that seeds of this species were sent from Sumatra to the Botanic garden at Calcutta, and that the plants reared from them flower during the hot season, and ripen their seed in February
